Unknown contacts storage on LG V30 (Android Oreo)

Post by unambiguous » Tue Oct 16, 2018 10:52 am

Hi,
I have trouble locating the contacts on LG V30 that runs Android Oreo - specifically which storage location are they stored in.

During the configuration I chose "Phone" as the address book to be used in synchronization. The sync ran without issues.

Afterwards, when I choose to display "All contacts" on my phone, I see the contacts OK. When I choose to display storage "Phone", the contacts are not there. When I choose any other location (SIM, google accounts, BirdieSync, etc.), the contacts are not there. Furthermore, all contact groups are empty, even though every contact has its group set and the group can be seen when looking at the contacts' details.

Any clue on where the contacts might be stored?

Thunderbird 60.2.1
BirdieSync 3.2.1.2
Android 8.0.0

Hello unambiguous,

While your Android device is connected to BirdieSync server, could you please build a log archive with BirdieSync menu "Help/Archive logs..." and send BirdieSyncLog.zip to support(at)birdiesync.com ?

When you say contact groups are empty, you mean that when you filter contacts by group on your Android device, no contacts are displayed in the list ?
Were these groups created by yourself ? Or were they created through BirdieSync synchronization ?

Thanks.

Is any of the files in the log archive specifically important? I would choose and send only the one, since the logs contain a lot of personal information.

It seems that the groups were probably created during the initial setup of the device by syncing with a google account. The names of the group are/were the same as the ones used in Thunderbird. I have deleted the groups on the Android device, ran the sync again, and they have not been recreated.

Actually, Configuration.txt would be one of the most important. If possible, BirdieSync.log files in server and Android source would be also interesting to check synchronization running. I usually prefer to have the full archive to get all available information to investigate. I understand your concern regarding privacy. Be ensure that this data is only used to investigate on your specific issue. You may sent it to me to support(at)birdiesync.com.

When you say "group" in Thunderbird, do you mean "Address book" or contact "Categories" (you would need an additional add-on to access to them in Thunderbird since there are not visible by default).

Sorry for the delayed reaction. Did not receive topic notification even though I was subscribed to it.
I will try to send some part of the log.

By "groups" I mean contact categories. I treat each account as a separate address book and I sync only one account/address book.

For the categories I was using MoreFunctionsForAddressBook, but it has been disabled since Thunderbird 60. I found an add-on called CategoryManager, but I do not know how to map it with categories in the phone. But that is another topic...

The issue with unknown storage resolved in v3.0.0.14 in Android application.

Regarding synchronization of Thunderbird categories, BirdieSync presently only supports categories managed by MoreFunctionsForAddressBook and not by CategoryManager which uses its own Categories field. MoreFunctionsForAddressBook may not have provided yet a version fully supporting Thunderbird 60.
