Email Synchronization

Post by Speckbear »

Hi,

I am trying the Email synchronization. I have a lot of folders in my email accounts and it is not possible to select all folders and change the status to be synchronized or not and the way they synchronize at once.
It would also be nice to just select a folder and be able to use the same settings for any subfolder.
So I tried it at first with just some folders, synchronzing worked fine overriding the emails on the mobile from the PC ones. Afterward I added more folders and selected "both way" synchronization for them.
Now I got a warning that several Emails would be deleted on the PC as there were not existing on the mobile. Nice to have this warning ! So I refused to continue. But afterward I wanted to change the settings in the sync options for emails and everything was now deselected (to be not synchronized).

These are the bugs I have been having with the "s" version.
  • The birdiesync application on the mobile device constantly takes the focus from the current application. The mobile app should not display in the title bar when it is running. It has done this when the phone is turned on, when I am making a phone call and while running other programs. The mobile app prevents me from dialing a phone number sometimes. Once it forced the phone to turn off, which required the power button to turn back on. (Consider how ActiveSync doesn't do this.)
  • Because of those problems I had to uninstall the program from the mobile device. Now the device gives me 3 "notifications" that it can't run the program (Cannot execute \Program Files/BirdieSync/BirdieSync.exe). Please let me know how to clean up this uninstall because this is very annoying.
Otherwise, the desktop version is working OK and the data has been syncing just fine. I would like a way to hide the tray icon or only have bridiesync run when thunderbird is running.

My device is the HTC touch Pro, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, MSM7501A-528MHz.

You can hide the tray icon using windows internal controls. Right-click the start button, chose "properties" select the taskbar tab, then the customize button for the notification area. Scroll down to find the birdiesync.exe applet, chose "only show notifications" then ok your way of the menus.

Since Version s with Thunderbird 3.0.1 birdysync shows this message:

"Communication failure with the mobile device. ... Please disconnect and reconnect your mobile device"

Dis - and reconnect and also reset of mobile device don´t help.

Windows mobile 6 - Asus My Pal with Intel PXA270 Cpu.

@pwolfe:

The problem which caused BirdieSync to brought to front when the mobile device was connected was supposed to be fixed in version r.
The error mentioning that BirdieSync could not be launched after it was uninstalled should have been fixed in version s.
I made some tests again but could not reproduce these 2 problems in version s. Could you please confirm that you had these problems with version s and not with an earlier version ?
Thanks.

@Speckbear:

I understand that it would be easier that the synchronization properties would be applied to sub-folders if you had a lot of them. It will be necessary to think about it.
Regarding the warning about the deletions of the messages, it is incorrectly displayed when you unselect a mail folder from synchronization. Actually no deletions are performed during the synchronization if you no longer synchronize a mail folder.
You mentioned that after that all your mail folders were no longer selected to be synchronized. I couldn't reproduce the problem.Could you give a step by step scenario so that I can reproduce it ?

@Dirk:

After you get this problem, could you please send your logs to support(at)birdiesync.com ? (Tools/BirdieSync/Archive logs...")

@Andre:

Very soon I hope. ;-)

Hi Birdy,

I fact what I would like to say is not a bug but a question ... looking for some explanation or answer :)

Where the photos from address book are stored?
I mean ... I took some photos with my phone and I know where they are stored and the I looked at the address book and I saw a very nice pile of numbers and letters .... but where are the contact photos :) that I could use them on my computer?
Or opposite situation ... I put a contact photo on my computer and then did sync with my phone ... where is the photo located on my phone?

Thank you very much for the answer :)

Best regards,

here's a thought. I synced with my phone and hadn't realised that "tasks" was set to sync pc to mobile, not both ways. I lost a few notes I'd made on the phone that day.
Today I looked at the history log and found the headers for the tasks listed, I copied them by hand and so retrieved the information. could it be possible to allow select/copy on the history lines or a restore button?

Also re the last post about photos, I had set some pics on my favourite numbers, they disappeared after sync, I think that was version q, i haven't reset them and tried again yet, will try it later.

The final release of BirdieSync 2.0.0.0 has just been released ! :-)
A big thank you to all of you who tested the beta and helped improving the quality of the final release.

As beta versions are no longer accessible, this topic will be locked.
Since some of you may still have problems, please post individual threads so that they can be treated separately.
Thanks.

@wabik:

You may find some photos in the "Photos" sub directory of your Thunderbird profile directory.
On the mobile device, I don't know the answer.

@jimriley:

I'll see if it is possible to allow the copy of the values in the history list.
A restore button would be a more complex feature.

>I had set some pics on my favourite numbers, they disappeared after sync, I think that was version q, i haven't reset them and tried again yet, will try it later.
If you have a scenario so that I can reproduce this problem, it would be great.

@Zodiac:

It's possible to have contacts with references to picture which no longer exist. When did you install your first pre-version of Ligthning 1.0 ? (there may have been changes between these versions).
If possible, error traces will be modified to identify the contacts with these problems so that it's possible to check their associated pictures.

@Nuntius:

After having closed Thunderbird/Sunbird, disconnected, reconnected your mobile device and waited for the end of the synchronization, could you send your logs with the Thunderbird/Sunbird menu "Tools/BirdieSync/Archive logs..." to support(at)birdiesync.com ?
Thanks.

Hi,

I've just successfully installed Thunderbird 3.0 and Birdiesync 2.0 (not the beta). Install was relatively straightforward and Thunderbird, Lightning and Birdiesync all appear to be working fine. However, the irritating message "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action." now appears right after the first sync. I have checked both the Windows and Thunderbird options to ensure that Thunderbird is the default email program (and it is) but the problem remains. I am running Windows 7 V6.1.7600 Build 7600 and Thunderbird is the only email client (i..e. MS Outlook is not installed). Could this be a bug?
