Hello,
I am the first of a team of people wanting to move from Outlook 2007 to Thunderbird 2.0 and Lightning 0.5. Outlook currently connects to an exchange server, but we have new email domains with a different company and we want to use Thunderbird. We dont want to use the old exchange account anymore which has all the contacts and calendar info on it.
All of us have smart phones with Pocket Informant 2007 for the calendar and contact info. The phones have all the latest contacts and calendar info in them which currently syncs to the old exchange server, thus updating everything.
The problem Ive run into is in regards to moving my contacts and calendar over to Thunderbird/Lightning. The instructions for Birdie mention unclicking exchange in Active Sync and clicking on a different option. The problem is when I go to do this Active Sync says it must delete everything from my phone. Thats not good. I was hoping to have my phone sync through Birdie into Thunderbird/Lightning for the initial population of data in these programs. Beyond this first important sync Thunderbird/Lightning would just function normally, syncing through Birdie into the smart phone.
Perhaps there is another way to get the exchange info into Thunderbird/Lightning, but I figured using the smart phones would be the easiest.
If you have any ideas I would be very greatful. Multiple team members will consider buying this software if we can find a solution.
Thanks so much,
Chris S.
Help on Exchange server/Outlook 07 to Thunderbird/Birdie
Current version of BirdieSync (1.6.1.1) checks that Outlook categories are not selected during synchronization. Next version of BirdieSync will give the ability to the user to disable this checking, if for any reason he prefers to keep both synchronization (which can sometimes lead to temporary unresolved items).
Another possibility is to simply delete your ActiveSync partnership. During the establishment of the next partnership, only select synchronization of "cards, events, tasks or mails" and choose a "Combine" option to transfer all your items from the mobile device to Thunderbird.
And if it the first time you synchronize with BirdieSync, please do a backup of your data before synchronizing.
