Invitations for Events are nor sent automatically

Post by fkuehner »

Hi *,

i have trouble in replacing Outlook on my wifes PC with Thunderbird (which i myself use for years) and successfully synch her WM 6.1 Events with TB/Lightning.

The story so far: My wife has bought a used Omina i900 WM6.1 Device. On her desktop PC up to now she only had installed OL2003. When creating an event on her WM61 device with me as a participant, and synchin' it with ActiveSync 4.5. and her OL2003 i only get a Mail with an attached winmail.dat-File that was nor recognized by TB/Lightning as an invitation. Cruel enough it is the same situation with our OL2007-Systems (on our respecting Company-Notebooks). So i was looking for a replacement for her private used OL2003 and decided to install the very freshest Versions of TB/Lightning and BS:

TB : 3.0 Release
Lightning : 1.0b2pre
BS : 2.0.0.0beta-p

I imported everything from her OL2003 into TB and items which could not be imported (Events and Tasks) i initially synched with BS directly after installaton. Now she has a fully functional TB/Lightning/BS configuration that is almost working perfect. Almost ? Yes, almost. The problem now is the following. When i create an Event on her WM6.1 device with me as an invitee, the Event gets perfectly synched with her local TB/Lightning. But there is no invitation being sent to me. I have to open the Event on her local TB ("Notify Attendees" is already checked) and save and close the Event. Then i am being asked whether i would like to send out the notification email now. When i say Yes, then the invitation/notification is being sent out and when receiving it in TB on my PC i finally can also accept events sent from her WM61 device.

Did i miss any configuration setting ?

best regards and thanks for this very useful piece of software. When you now could implement an interface to MediaMonkey to use MMs Config to Sync Playlists and to synch any Folder-Structure (e.g. my Family-JPGs ) you like to, to a user-definable destination folder... it would be perfect ;-)

best regards

Freddy

OK, i fixed it , partly. ActiveSynch was still configured to synch the WM61 device. So AS grabbed the Invitation-Mails into Outlook before BS could synch them to TB. I deactivated this and now the Invitations are being sent to the participants automatically. But the problem that they are not recognized as Invitations to a task still persists. I still have to have to open the Event and Save and Close it to send out the Invitations that "work" and are recognized as what they are.

Here an example of an Invitation sent directly from WM61 --> Birdiesync --> TB --> Participant:

Hello Freddy,

So if you I understand you well, you generate an invitation mail in Pocket Outlook, this mail is then synchronized with BirdieSync and then sent to the recipient but this mail is not recognized as an invitation. Am I correct ?

Note that when BirdieSync creates an event in Lightning/Sunbird, it doesn't send the invitation because if for instance you'd synchronize all your events again from the mobile device, you wouldn't want necessarily to notify again the recipients...

Hi Birdy,

thanx for your fast reaction even after the christmas days.

And yes, you are nearly to 100% right, unless that i do not generate an invitation manually, but an event with participants. The invitation mail is automatically created by Pocket Outlook, and then synched with Birdiesync. But as you may see in my example 1, with no invitation specific content. The invitation-Mail being sent to the invitees in fact is empty. The Invitation only works when i open the event in TB/Lightning, Save and Close it and then say Yes to the dialogue that asks me whether the invitation should be sent (Example 2 in my 2nd mail)

And thats the problem. Lets assume my wife would create 10 Events with her PDA when shes away for business. When being back at home and synchin' these events (and empty invitation mails) she then had the Events in her local Lightning calendar. And then, to succesfully send the working invitations to me (or other invitees) she had to open each of those events manually just to Save and close them immediately und send out the "working" invitations.

Did this help to understand my problem a little bit closer ?

And, in fact you are right, when i do an initial fresh sync of all of my events, it would be a great mess if everybody would be invited again, but in normal synch operations i would expect the invitees to automatically get a funtional invitation mail so they can accept or decline... as ist works well when you only use M$-products (sigh..... !!)

best regards

I did some tests with the invitation email created by Pocket Outlook. This mail seems empty: no body and no attachment... It's what BirdieSync reads when synchronizing this email and it is what appears in Pocket Oulook when you open the mail in the Outbox folder. I don't know yet if there is a problem in Pocket Outlook or if this mail is stored in a special format that should be read differently... It will require more investigation.
