it's impossible to get the path of the user application dire

Post by philippe83 »

hi,
using birdiesync to synchronize phone and thunderbird + lightning
error "it's impossible to get the path of the user application directory"

after changing phone (same one HTC TOUCH CRUISE - warranty), it was impossible to use birdiesync on PC with windows vista. I can't re-install birdiesynch
[hopefull , I can reinstall with my laptop windows XP and i can STILL use birdiesync with the new phone and my laptop ]
before changing phone, everything was OK with both computers [ thunderbird portable version 2.0.0.23 and lightning 0.9 installed on a USB key + birdiesynch 1.7.2.0 ]

on PC error message when i try to re-install birdiesync
"il est impossible d'obtenir le chemin du répertoire d'application de l'utilisateur"
"it's impossible to get the path of the user application directory"

impossible to remove birdiesynch - error message something like "unable to stop synch prog.."
so remove birdiesynch manually, cleaning registry
new installation
same error message

try with thunderbird 3 portable, birdiesynch 2 and lightning 1 on USB key
try with thunderbird 3 [full install on PC], birdiesynch 2and lightning 1
try with thunderbird 2 portable, birdiesynch 1 and lightning 0.9 on USB key
try with thunderbird 2 [full install on PC], birdiesynch 1 and lightning 0.9
always the same error message about user application directory

HELP
thanks

Hello,

Do you have a file BirdieSyncInstall.log located in temporary directory ? For instance:

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Temp\
Vista: C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Temp
(Application Data is a hidden folder: in explorer window, you must check the option "Show hidden files and folders")

If yes, what is its content ?
Thanks.

i find that in admin folder

Local 2009-12-20 14:41:50::301 Unsigned CABS policy = 16Local 2009-12-20 14:41:59::075 ERROR: Could not get special folder location (result = 0x80004005) (GetLastError = 2)

Local 2009-12-20 14:41:50::346 ERROR: Unknown processor type for operating system major version 4 or 5: (GetLastError = 80)

lines 346 ERROR are probably about system operating in phone. Each time I had to choose pocket PC 6.1 and ARM 4
thanks

@philippe83:

Can you you confirm that Vista is your operating system ?
Is your user account an administrator account or a restricted account ?
Do you have a directory:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<users name>\Application Data
Vista: C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming
(Application Data is a hidden folder: in explorer window, you must check the option "Show hidden files and folders")
Thanks.
