Well, I tried to get this working about 6 months ago and could not.
I recently tried again and I just downloaded the latest BirdieSync installer without noticing the drop down to select the version of ThunderBird.

Just noting that Thunderbird 78.14.0 (64-bit) is the latest channel release dated Sept 7, 2021

I have BirdieSync 3.2.5.1 Thunderbird 78.14.0 When I install BirdieSync it recognizes that I am running Thunderbird and asks me to shut it down. Thank you for testing that, I can't explain what happened then.
I sync between an iPhone, and Thunderbird running on Windows 10.
The only component I upgraded was BirdieSync on Windows 10 because it stopped working when Thunderbird updated.

Thank you that worked.
However, the checkbox to keep BirdieSync data does not appear to have worked.
I am having to go through and re-setup all my synchronization properties.
And that is fine, at least everything is communicating now.
